From Laura Strachan, Quinn's literary agent, who took on this project in 2007:
"The book is called Playing Time. Sometimes parents will do anything for their kids to have it,” says
Cotter, who hopes his book can serve as a “how-to” book for parents.
Though Cotter
may be the first teenager to have a book published on the subject, the topic has become a hot button throughout the country
in the last decade. Baseball Hall of Famer, Jim Palmer writes the Introduction and confirms Quinn's insights as
well as the importance of giving kids playing time to grow with to reach their potential.
Overzealous
parents have made national news with their behavior at their children’s sporting events, confronting officials, coaches
and even other parents. Verbal abuse is commonplace. Kids themselves take on those kinds of behaviors, exhibiting poor sportsmanship,
or become embarrassed by their parents and coaches, pushing away from sports altogether.
I think
that kids will enjoy reading the book because they relate to the stories, but mostly it’s a book for parents and coaches.
I liken it to The Emperor’s New Clothes. You have all these adults acting like children, and it takes a child to stand
up and call them on their behavior.
